About

I am recently retired and enjoy travelling and photography. My working life was spent mostly in an operating theatre and when I retired my colleagues asked me what I would like as a present. A camera seemed to be the perfect choice as I did not own one and planned to spend as much of my retirement travelling and documenting my trips.

I outgrew my first ‘point and click’ camera fairly swiftly and moved onto a lovely Panasonic FZ200 bridge camera. This took me on a long trip around the world quite happily. Soon after returning I decided I had need for greater flexibility and so I started to research the next best camera. Having booked a trip to South Africa which included a safari I felt I need a bit more ‘reach’. After many hours of ‘Googling’ and visits to camera shops I purchased an Olympus OMD-EM1 which came with a lovely 12-40mm lens. I also purchased a Panasonic 100-300mm lens for the long shots. Not long after I added the 100-400mm Leica lens from Panasonic and more recently an Olympus 40-150mm.

The micro four thirds system is very travel friendly! The weight and size of the equipment is a huge advantage. The quality of the images is excellent. I know die hard Canon and Nikon DSLR users might disagree but I see increasingly frequent reviews from professional photographers who are being converted, especially travel photographers. I can hand hold both the 100-400 and 40-150 lenses, which is a huge advantage when out in the wild. I simply could not hand hold an equivalent sized DSLR.

I recently joined a local camera club, have taken lessons and courses to help improve my technique. There is so much to learn!

I hope you enjoy my photographs.
